Startups are commonly known to be tech companies who work on many technology strategies and digital products. Web developers, back ends, front ends, and SEO engineers are some positions you frequently see from these startups when they are hiring, especially new startups. However, are startups too exclusive for those who cannot code at all?
If you don’t have adequate knowledge in the tech area, never prevent your desire to join startups! As independently growing companies, startups do require people who can work on non-tech roles to support the overall performance of the company. Customer service, finance, human resources, sales and marketing, are some key factors to boost the startup’s success and these positions do not have any tight relation to technology matters.
Wondering what are the non-tech roles needed in Startups?
Sales. As long as startups are looking for profits by selling the products, sales would be one crucial role. Doing sales in a tech company might be different concerning customers, products recognition and promotions. As long as you are ready to roll-up your sleeves and learn new things, you will still thrive in the industry.
HR. Every startup needs talents, and it is the HR that sets up the job ads, receiving CV’s and resumes, doing the interview and onboarding the new hires until they are ready to work at a startup’s’ team. Else, HR managers are responsible for any employees’ matters including leaves, benefits, workspaces, and any other legal policies related to employees.
Customer service. Customers are great assets, especially for young startups seeking for ways to gain more customers and keep them engaged with the company. A customer service role is determining, as she/he has to deal directly with customers, be it face-to-face or through phone calls, and tackle issues relating to customers’ satisfaction.
Marketing. A marketing person holds a terrific role in expanding the markets, gain more new users and build excitement towards the product through campaigns, advertising, and more. However, marketing people in startups should be highly creative, and able to do a lot of things with little budgets.
Finance. Startups always need someone in finance and accounting to handle the flow of expenses, report the data on sales, assets, income, and more. There is always a challenge to work in tech industries (like profit calculations, abstract products and data collection) but as long as employees are willing to learn and work with the team, it will be a fun environment with lots of potentials to grow.
Even if you are not from a tech background, carve an exciting career by joining these prospective industries. Startups might not be able to offer high salary packages, but you can gain a lot of experiences and valuable knowledge which will be worthwhile. As much as a tech person plays a vital part in a startup, your role will be as equally important for the success of the startup.
