$1 Million Prize For The Ultimate Startup Comes To Asia!

StartCon, Australia’s largest startup and growth conference, and Australian venture capital firm Right Click Capital have put $1 million investment on the table for one lucky winner in a quest to promote innovation throughout Asia Pacific.

The competition offers ambitious founders a platform for global pitch exposure, with one of the region’s largest prize pools for any startup pitch competition,

Startups around the globe are thriving thanks to the development of new and disruptive business ideas and the meteoric rise of the ‘gig economy’ which has seen many seasoned professionals leave their corporate roles in search for innovation, disruption, flexibility and greater work-life balance.

The pitching competition will be held across 15 cities and will put local startups to the test in Australia, South East Asia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. The winners of each event will be given the opportunity to secure a spot to pitch for the $1 million later in the year at the Grand Final at StartCon in Sydney in December.

The Singapore Regional Final will be held on August 17th 2018 at the Sofitel Singapore City Centre, and will provide an exciting challenge for local startups to pitch for their spot in the Grand Final. The event will also be coming to Manila, Jakarta, and Shanghai.

The events offers not just the opportunity to pitch but exposure, valuable industry insights and beneficial connections – all while rubbing shoulders with some of the top local and international startup founders, thought leaders and investors!

The winners of each Asian Regional Final will get the chance to travel to StartCon in December, including flights, tickets to StartCon, and a spot in the Asia Pacific Grand Finals on December 1 at StartCon, plus much more.

StartCon Chief Executive Cheryl Mack expects 50 to 70 startups to be pitching at the Singapore event, with attendances surpassing 200-500 for each of the 15 regional events along with providing significant investment opportunities and exposure for startups in each region.

In addition to the Asian locations, pitching events will be held across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide as well as New Zealand, Darwin, Hobart, regional NSW and more.

The stakes are high for up-and-coming startups, with the potential to discover the next AirBnB or Uber.

Right Click Capital partner Benjamin Chong states, “The intention is to create a platform that allows startups to get exposure and create networks with other startups and investors”.

According to the Australian Financial Review Right Click Capital’s most recent investment was in satellite startup Myriota in a $US15 million round alongside Boeing’s HorizonX Ventures, Main Sequence Ventures, Blue Sky Venture Capital and Singtel Innov8. Having already announced nine investments from its fund, Mr Chong said it was on track to make between eight and ten investments this year across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Now in its 9th year, with an expected attendance of over 4000 startups, investors and industry insiders, StartCon will showcase some of the region’s best innovation in the startup space.
